Slipstream Maine at Camp Caribou

Thank you Beyond Type 1 and Connected in Motion for having me out this weekend. You all continue to host life-changing events for adults living with type 1 diabetes.

Please share this photography across any social media platform. Provide any credit / shoutout when appropriate.

One request I have is to think about embedding the YouTube from this year’s slipstream in any corresponding blog post! The video should be done this week.

Can’t wait for more adventures. Below is the download button, below that is some of my feedback to keep improving.

Slipstream New England 2019

What worked well

The Staff

Can we give a round of applause to the staff at Camp Caribou? They seriously kick ass.

The Venue

The facilities at camp are so perfect to offer activities for all interests - sport enthusiasts to those looking to relax. Water skiing was a highlight along with the aquazip.

ACtivities

One highlight was hearing Joe talk about doing yoga for the first time as an older adult. The room was filled with those who needed time for their diabetes and inner self.

Food

I loved the food, especially vegetarian options being available. Shaylyn Maloney, an attendee with celiac, was very happy they had gluten-free options at every meal.

Room for improvement

  • Buy a big tub of ear plugs. Snoring, beeping alarms, etc. etc. Think many people would love that.

  • Promotion of previous year’s videos. I was thrilled to hear that some people signed up after watching my YouTube video from 2018. On the other hand, you had some people feeling “surprised” not knowing the vibe/feel of camp before arriving. Think promotion of more video content could get more people interested.

  • Bathroom situation is different in each cabin. Dana and I heard Sarah talk how one of the mixed gender cabins had an “open” bathroom/shower situation.

  • Dog situation seemed to not always work out.

  • Carpool situation for going home. Know some people got to camp but had difficulty figuring out how to return.

Highlights from 2019

  • First international attendee from Australia. Whaaaaaaaat.

  • Alumni! Alumni volunteers!! People want to come back!!!

Thank you for all of your hard work over the years. You all are incredible.
